Requirements before equipment selection

Water Bottling Plant Requirements Checklist

A reliable requirement set describes the product, operating conditions and factory interfaces that the selected equipment must serve. Use this page to organize inputs, not as a substitute for local design or compliance review.

Answer first

What are the main requirements for a water bottling plant?

The project needs a defined product and destination, source-water evidence, approved bottles and packs, a demand-based capacity, complete process and packaging equipment, suitable rooms and material flow, stable utilities, drainage, quality controls, trained people, permits and a written installation and acceptance plan.

01

Product, water and packaging requirements

Start with the things the factory must produce and handle.

Water evidence

Record source type, available flow, analysis, seasonal concerns, treatment objectives, target water characteristics and sampling responsibilities.

Product definition

Identify the intended product category and the destination-market rules, tests, records and label review that require local confirmation.

Container data

Provide bottle drawings or samples, material, volume, neck finish, cap, label area, pack pattern and pallet assumption.

Format plan

Separate confirmed launch formats from future possibilities and show which format changes must be included in the current order.

02

Capacity, equipment and automation requirements

Turn demand into an operating basis and then into a line scope.

Requirement groupQuestions to answerProject deliverable
CapacityAnnual volume, peak factor, days, shifts, hours, changeover and target utilization?Planning rate and operating calendar
EquipmentWhich treatment, bottle, filling, label, pack, conveyance, inspection and pallet functions?Equipment and option list
AutomationWhich functions, line states, recipes, data, alarms and integrations are needed?Control and signal description
PerformanceUnder which product, bottle, material, utility and test conditions?Acceptance criteria and test plan

03

Building and utility requirements

The factory must supply each machine at the right point and condition.

Electrical

Confirm voltage, frequency, phases, available capacity, protection, isolation, grounding and distribution responsibility.

Air and cooling

Separate general compressed air from high-pressure blowing air and record quality, pressure, flow, storage and cooling needs.

Water and drainage

Define raw, treated and cleaning water routes plus drain locations, expected streams and local discharge review.

Rooms and access

Provide hygienic zoning, operator and maintenance access, equipment arrival route, storage, QC, utilities and dispatch movement.

04

Quality, people and execution requirements

Operating readiness is a deliverable, not an assumption.

Quality system

Define sampling, in-process checks, laboratory needs, release, traceability, deviation handling and record ownership.

People

Plan operators, quality staff, maintenance, utility operation, supervision, sanitation and material replenishment by shift.

Project services

Assign engineering approval, FAT, packing, shipping, unloading, installation, commissioning, training and handover.

Documents and language

List layouts, diagrams, manuals, certificates supplied with equipment, parts lists, backups, records and required languages.

05

Freeze and control the requirement set

A requirement is useful only when its status and changes are visible to every project party.

Requirement register

Give each product, format, performance, utility, document and service requirement an owner, status and approval reference.

Assumption log

Record every value used before evidence is available and identify when the assumption must be confirmed or replaced.

Change review

Check the effects of a new bottle, higher capacity, different pack or site change on equipment, utilities, cost and schedule before approval.

Final baseline

Attach the approved requirement, format, equipment, responsibility and acceptance schedules to the signed technical agreement.

06

Trace every critical requirement to verification and acceptance

Collecting requirements is only the first step. Give each item a unique identifier, source, priority, verification method, responsible party and final evidence so procurement, design, FAT, installation and handover use the same basis.

Requirement fieldPurposeExample status

Buyer questions

Questions to settle before the next project gate

What are the minimum details for a useful water bottling plant quotation?

At minimum: product, bottle and pack formats, capacity basis, water analysis, destination, voltage, site status, required equipment and requested project services.

Can final utility loads be estimated before equipment selection?

Only preliminary allowances can be discussed. Final loads and connection requirements must come from the confirmed machines and operating conditions.

Are regulatory requirements the same in every country?

No. Source approval, product standards, facility licensing, labeling, environmental and worker-safety requirements must be verified for the actual destination.

What should be marked as unknown?

Any unverified input. An explicit unknown is safer than a guessed value and becomes an action in the clarification register.

What is the difference between a requirements checklist and a URS?

The checklist helps collect and prioritize project inputs. A user requirement specification converts the approved needs into controlled, testable statements with verification and traceability for procurement and acceptance.
