Production and material balance
Connect bottle or pack counts, filler output, rejects, water totals, tank levels and warehouse movement to a consistent time and product basis. Define how counters reset and how changeovers are recorded.
Factory planning for water bottling projects
Measure the variables that support a decision
More sensors do not automatically create better control. A useful metering plan starts with operating, quality, cost, maintenance and acceptance decisions, then identifies the measurement point, range, accuracy need, data owner and response. The plant should be able to reconcile product and utility flows, detect material change, investigate losses and preserve evidence without creating an unmaintainable collection of disconnected instruments.

01
Every proposed measurement should answer a named question or control a defined risk.
Connect bottle or pack counts, filler output, rejects, water totals, tank levels and warehouse movement to a consistent time and product basis. Define how counters reset and how changeovers are recorded.
Identify electricity, low- and high-pressure air, cooling, heating and water measurements needed to confirm capacity, allocate demand, diagnose instability or support improvement work.
Map process parameters, alarms, analytical results, sanitation indicators, vibration, temperatures, pressures or service hours to the control and maintenance decisions they support.
02
Use one controlled list from design through calibration and operations.
| Register field | Purpose | Question to resolve | Handover evidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Measurement location | Defines the physical boundary | Does the point represent the intended stream or asset? | Tagged drawing and installed photograph |
| Range and performance | Matches instrument to expected conditions | Are startup, low-flow and peak cases covered? | Datasheet and verification record |
| Signal and storage | Connects local reading to controls or history | Who owns scaling, timestamps, retention and backup? | I/O list, trend and backup document |
| Response and ownership | Turns data into action | Who reviews, at what frequency and against what limit? | Operating procedure and escalation route |
03
A number without context, calibration or time alignment can mislead the plant.
Define engineering units, aggregation periods, batch or SKU context, time source and treatment of resets, communication loss and manual entries so different systems can be compared.
Assign criticality, method, interval, acceptance and out-of-tolerance response. Provide isolation and access so instruments can be checked without unsafe or uncontrolled work.
Document accounts, roles, network interfaces, backups, remote access, export formats and change approval for controls and monitoring systems. Avoid undocumented permanent remote connections.
04
Test the complete path from physical condition to recorded decision.
Verify tag, location, direction, range, unit, scaling, display, alarm, historian value and associated drawing for each critical point before using it for acceptance.
Compare meters, counters and tank changes across stable production, cleaning and utility events. Explain differences using stops, rejects, unmetered flows and instrument uncertainty.
Create shift, weekly and monthly views with named owners, action limits and investigation records. Retire unused data and add new points only through the change-control process.
Buyer questions
The list follows decisions and balances. Common boundaries include source and treated water, product, major utility users, production output and critical process conditions.
No. The required performance depends on whether the point supports indication, control, quality, billing, balance reconciliation or contractual acceptance.
A common view can help, but integration should define tags, units, time, cybersecurity, ownership, backups and failure behavior before systems are connected.
Verify the installed point, calibration or check status, scaling, display, recording, alarm and reconciliation under representative operating conditions.
